Welcome to the Fashion Hall of Fame…

8 Aug

Virtual drumroll and much fanfare please…

In 2011 we will welcome fashion journalist Janice Breen Burns and couturier Victoria Cascajo into our Fashion Hall of Fame. They will join the ranks of Australia’s leading style lights including Alannah Hill, Joseph Saba, Arthur Galan and Prue Acton.

Janice Breen Burns has long held industry respect as The Age newspaper’s Fashion Editor (after stints writing fashion features for Ragtrader, her own column ‘Babble On’ and The Sun since the 1980’s). As one of Melbourne’s taste-makers, Janice has been doling out style advice and fashion commentary for literally decades. Janice will present a hand-picked showcase of emerging Stonnington designers’ collections as part of the Hall of Fame ceremony.

Joining Janice is couturier Victoria Cascajo. A protégée  of none other than Cristobal Balenciaga, Victoria is most well known for designing the infamous peek-a-boo gown that (the late, now Lady) Sonia McMahon wore to a presidential White House reception in the early 70’s. In the days before Rebecca Twigley’s barely there Brownlow dress or Liz Hurley’s saftey-pin spiked Versace number, Victoria’s creation was dubbed by a Washington Post reporter as “a breakthrough for fashion and a blow for women’s liberation”. Her label ‘Balencia Couture’ has clad many a lady from Stonnington’s social set over the years.

Fancy joining us at the Fashion Hall of Fame induction ceremony (including Stonnington’s Spring Fashion Runway) on August 31 as we celebrate the achievements of these two magnificent women? Simply click here for details on how to book.
